Question LEO's - side license plate?

A question for the LEOs.

I see the new wide glide comes with a side license plate... at least they come that way here in Colorado. What are the rules for this? Am I likely to get pulled over if I ride out to California or some other state?

To be safe, you should have your plate mounted horizontally, in the rear of the motorcylce, and in clear view.

As long as the plate is horizontal, lit, and plainly visible, there should not be an issue. If it was a DOT issue, it wouldn't come from the factory like that.

That said, local law trumps federal law. It can be more strict, but not more lenient.

As stated already...as long as it is horizontal you are fine. It becomes an issue when the plate is vertical. After 9 years on the job, I have yet to stop a bike for a vertical plate...but thats just me

Same here, but if the cop wants to pursue the issue he/she has PC for a stop. Doubt if they write you for it, but could find other stuff while you are detained. (20 yrs and done counting)

Tinker,

The Wideglides come the same way out here in California. Not much a cop can do if they come that way from the factory.

I'm not a LEO, but I'm pretty sure that most of the cops out here have more important **** to do than pull you over for a side mounted plate...this, of course excludes small SoCal beach town cops, and the occasional CHP that has a hair up his ***.

Thanks for the info. My general philosophy when it comes to LEO's is that it's best to fly under the radar and not give any an obvious reason to pull me over.

Thus quote Bronson..

Out here cops are stopping you for any damned thing they can find... on orders of the city guv-ment. It's a way they can bring in revenue for the city...

I've talked with guys that have gotten pulled over for going 3mph over the limit.. on a steep down hill grade...

Thanks again.
