OK I did the oil and NOW I am thinking of how often I would like to do it
Now somewhere on here I read of buying filters for 3 to 5 dollars and good ones no bull ****
so if you would tell me where or what to cross reference too
and to all who go to the Dealers I have no qualms to each his/her own

Thanks

I'd change the oil every 3-5000 once broken in.

Seems the oil debate is cross-make type debate. I get into this on the VTXOA(Honda VTX Owners Assoc.) and I can tell you that Harley does NOT make oil, nor does Honda. All vehicle manufacturers that have their own label oil put out a contract bid and the lowest bidding company that will produce an oil that will MEET(just meets and rarely exceeds) their specs wins that contract. Then that vehicle company slaps their name on the bottle of that cheap oil and charges US, the customer, an enormous price and try to tell the uninformed that their vehicle needs their oil to run it's best. That is BS, plain and simple. Any oil that will meet the spcs of your engine and is OK to use in the clutch will be better than the dealers oil and you'll pay less too. For synthetics, you can usually get a good synthetic for about the same as the dealers natural oil. Mobil1 V-twin 20-50 and AMSOIL MCV 20-50 are always at the top of oil studies. They both outperform the other oils. You can also run these oils for far longer than the 3,000 miles that is suggested and it is still protecting the engine far better than fresh dealer oil would be. I will change my oil once a year in my VTX, around 8,000-10,000 miles on it swapping the filter around 4,000 miles. I had the AMSOIL tested at Blackstone labs and it was well within all the spec ranges and was told it was good for another 3,000 miles before another test would be needed. I know, the habit of changing the oil every 3k is tough to get past. My BMW suggests 15,000 miles before the first change and subsequent changes. But if you can get past that, and using a good full synthetic, you can go at least double the miles on the oil with no ill effects.

PS...Here's a little reading;

Careful just going for lowest cost. There are some filters that are about as valuable as a busted condom. There were those I quoted earlier, or for about the same $12 get a K&N or Wix chrome jobbie. Best evaluated protection and flow rate.

If you only care about the cost of a filter,go to your local Wally World and buy their SuperTech filters.They are in your price range.
