I like the three flash and then steady. You will be the most visible of the group and most cops don't care. If you are that concerned several companies like BAL let you reprogram for inpection or if you got a ticket, you can reset it, go back to the cop or take a hearing to show that it was changed to single mode. Then, you can change it back afterward.

Check FMVSS 108. Brief flashing brake lights are legal on public roads in the United States. Read the regulation.

All I found there was:

S5.5.4 The stop lamps on each vehicle shall be activated upon application of the service brakes.

Doesn't really address flashing.

A quick search for "Massachusetts vehicle equipment law" got me to Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90, Section 7, which says in part,

No motor vehicle so operated shall mount or display a flashing, rotating or oscillating light in any direction
So I don't live there, and have no idea if this is even the correct law, but it may be something a cop could bust you for, depending on his mood, and it's definitely something I'd ask a cop about before using.

Seems like that would outlaw turn signals, doesn't it? No wonder nobody in Massachusetts ever uses them!!!

No different than just pumping the brake. Dont see why it would be illegal.

Surprised it's not legal in VA. The strobe flashing Head light is as long as it's the proper rate? Go figure. Anyway you need to be careful what you do if you travel much. Laws vary quite a bit. Got my buddy for his signal lights being too close on the back.

LOL, yeah, but there is a later excerpt in that section that states it doesn't apply to turn signals.

Here in Wisconsin, it's apparently only legal to use turn signals if you're doing 47 in the left lane...
