you may want to try a ½ cover...no need to wait for cool down.

Bike Cover
Cover sometimes, depending on weather forecast. Never had any bird crap on It,but one was trying to nest on it. Some one from work came back from lunchbreak and told me there was bird nest between the windsheild and bars of my Road king. I thought someone was playing a joke and had placed it there. I took it off and destroyedthe nest when I left work that day,but that bird built two more nest in the next coupla daysFinally he must have gave up.

Tourkings is the way to go.
I cover mine to keep the dew from settling on the seat.

I don't cover my bike at work but I do use a half cover on road trips. It keeps morning dew and light rain off the seat. It might also help deter theft.

I commuted with my bike to the school where I was teaching for years (retired now). Never covered it, but didn't park it under any trees or near any sprinklers. I did, however, use the alarm with siren, and a locking gas cap to keep the older kids from messing with it or pranking me by adding something unwanted to the gas tank.

Reads like most do not cover.
1 - Sun light does fade paint (and dry out vinyl/leather/rubber) over time.
2 - Dew, heat, droppings on seat can be uncomfortable.
1/2 cover sounds like a good answer.
