Starter problem
Hello, New thread on ongoing problem.
bike wont start , click and that's it.Checked everything that tells me it is starter. 1997 96" evo
When i rock back and fro , I hear a slight ( how can i explain) engaged sound from the primary. I am worried the starter is engaged and if i push start the bike to get started the starter will stay engaged until it is disconnected from battery , which could be a problem or time issue. Don't know if will cause damage while attempting to disconnect battery.
Can anyone offer help to tell if starter is engaged ?
Cheers

Disconnect the battery and pull you primary. You'll see immediately if the starter jackshaft gear is engaged on the ring gear attached to the clutch basket.

thanks for replies , thought may be an easier way other than taking off the primary, but probably not.
I have a fully charged battery , keep it on a battery tender ,also it is new.Would jump starting make a differance?
If i bumbed start down a hill and the starter was engaged , would it cause damage?
cheers
