What's Your Favorite Speed?

RE: What's Your Favorite Speed?
I usually just like to chug along at 65-70mph. I like to get there quickly too and usually jackrabbit from redlights. I was humming along the turnpike this afternoon running 90-95mph. I love to hear those pipes sing their sweet song!

RE: What's Your Favorite Speed?
My 06 Deluxe seems to groove best at about 50-60 mph. I hate the 4 lane freeways except when they have a motorcycle lane. I went out on I-90 the other day becasue I thought it would be nice to go up to the mountains and back. But there was so much semi truck traffic that it took away all the relaxation I was after. I don't mind I-90 when the truck traffic is light (which is rare). I guess also that 70+ MPH long distance is just not that comfy for me, or relaxing. I don't really ride for a speed thrill, though I do enjoy a torquey goose of the throttle for short bursts. Funny-I was thinking about this tonight on my after work ride in the country (67 miles). Honestly, I'm most relaxed at about 50-55, I can go forever at that speed without getting tight or stressed. But as I approach 60 and beyond the stress level goes up incrementally with the throttle. Of course it depends alot on the road I'm on and even my mood. A few weeks ago I was out on I-5 averaging about 75 and felt like I could go forever even in the very heavy traffic. So it really depends on how I feel on a given day. Also, it seems that (on fullday trips) the longer I ride continuously, the faster my average speed. Also have to throw in the weather and road conditions as a major factor too. Also, I'm only up for about 150-200 miles per day max to still enjoy myself with several stops. i'm kind of a rhythym rider I get into a flow depending on what I'm doing always with a tune in my head. Or at least try to.

I guess a single choice "favorite" would be 70-80. The bike just hums there.
But like others have said, for me at what speed I choose to travel depends on many factors, including: temperature and weather, with or without windscreen, with full-face or with half helmet, into the wind or calm, 2-lane and no traffic or 5-lane and heavy commute, a wide-open HOV lane, or other road factors like a thrilling twisty mountain road and nobody else in sight.
I ride alone most of the time, commuting to work when I can, and exploring my beautiful state on highways and backroads. Having thought about it, I either have more fun the more risky or challenging it becomes (when I tend to push my comfort limits and personal safety), like when the road offers variety and presents opportunity to let the bike "have its way". The posted limit always feels too slow on a bike. I'd say I really like to ride between 70-75 on freeways in general in my area where it is congested and even faster where it is more open. On scenic country or rural roads I slow it down. 50-60 is a good speed for those. In the city, it's close to the limit or whatever the cagers are doing.
