I don't think it is normal but I also don't think it is unheard of. I would probably be attempting to replace a check valve next time I did an oil change.

 

Thanks for the replys folks.. much appreciated. I did look down in the tank with a light and could see some oil in the bottom. i just wanted to touch base with the experts here and get their $.02
