Default Campgrounds near the Dragon

Wifey and me with a few friends are planning our vacation and have decided to do the Dragon this June. We are about to make our reservations at a RV Resort as near the Dragon as possible with the ammenaties we prefer. Are there gampgrounds that we should stay clear of. I don't want to put any facility near there in bad light but I'd like to avoid getting my pee pee caught in the wringer. Maybe a PM about less desireable sites would be a good idea. We are not especially spiritually strong folks and we do like to party a little at the end of the day after long rides. We've found some sites advertise "family" and we respect that. However, we would like a little more lively atmosphere but not roudy. I guess we could call different camps and inquire but I thought that hearing from folks who have experienced what we are planning might be best. We greatly appreciate any input.

Thank you in advance and Best Regards.

Best place around is punkin center motorcycle resort. Only people on or pulling bikes permitted. 9 miles from dragon, a few miles from foothills parkway. Very inexpensive yet clean with food and bar on site. I always stayed in cabins, not sure if rv's permitted but I believe so. WWW.punkincentermotorcycleresort.com

Couple years ago I stayed at the Iron Horse. Camping, RV and Cabins. Meals on site if you want.
Not rowdy and not family either. I don't remember seeing any kids.

Wasn't all paved then.

Good thread,,, we went there two years ago and are going again this summer with RV this time. I remember a local mentioning an RV site that was at the end of the 129 (the end with the tree of shame) he said it was down in a valley I thought he said PINE VALLEY. Hope some locals answer you, I will be reading.

Have to consider from which side (TN/NC) of the Dragon you are coming, too. You do NOT want to take an RV through the dragon and alternate routes getting around can take quite a long time.

We stayed at the KOA in Tellico Plains . Not real close to the Dragon but lots of good riding near by, the Dragon is the main attraction but the other roads are less busy and great rides,

Heads up when you want to eat or drink it may be tough to find a place open, they seem to have very strange hours and various closing days.
