Campgrounds near the Dragon
#12
Will you be spending you entire vacation at the dragon? I think of vacations as a full week. I can't see riding the same stretch over and over and.....
20 of us are going up in late April and staying at "A Holiday Hotel" in Maggie Valley for 39 per nite, tax included.
It is centrally located for the dragon/cherohala/hellbender, and other roads that are off the BRP that are more fun.
I don't know how much gas your RV is gonna burn, but a hotel like the one we will be in might be worth it...

The last time I went I had bought maps for the waterfalls, I think east and south. Planned some awesome rides and almost stuck to my planned routes. Fantastic riding and awesome views.
We ate breakfast one morning at one of the mentioned restuarants and met the man that makes the maps. Nice guy.
There was a northern ride we had planned (recommended by locals) but my bike spent two days in the shop. Rear brake line busted so no rear brakes.
Here is a link to the maps.

Forgot to mention this. The Dragon is cool but no where near as awesome as some of the other roads around, it is just more well known. I can't remember the route number but it goes down south of Waynesville to a waterfall you can slide down. That is an awesome road. It was in a loop we made to Bridal Vail Falls and another I can't remember the name of.
At one point as I tried to look off to the side at the drop off, my Wife smacked me in the head and said keep your eyes on the road. She didn't do that on the Dragon. Oh, and there wasn't much traffic once you get away from the areas of the different falls.

Not sure if this will answer any of your questions or not. But it will give you the names and websites of campgrounds based on the area you're looking at staying.

Edited to add the Kickstand Lodge. Had some people I know tent camp there. They liked the place.

Ok, last post (I hope) from me on this. I could go on and on. We carried sandwiches and drinks on my bike to save money. We ate where ever we felt like it. Stopped for a drink and smoke when we felt like it. Hundreds of pull offs on those roads.
This is where we had lunch, behind Bridal Vail Falls.
We rented a house for seven days that trip for $325.00

Punkin Center. I rented the entire back half of the store. They call it a Hostile. Had a great time. it was $200.00 a night but there is sleeping room for probly 12 people.
FYI The owners are very laid back and get to work when they get ready. that being said they'll be very helpful once you catch up with them.
He told me I cant sell you beer but if you let me know what you want it will be in the frig when you'll get back this evening.
I found out and told the girl at the store and she called him we paid her. when we got back there was beer.
Another place to check out is Smokey Mountain Harley. A unique place thart has Bands every weekend From Spring to Fall. The Shed is a pretty good time.

I guess we're trying for the Tremont Outdoor Resort. We're sharing the fuel cost with another couple and the site expenses as we are hauling their scooter. Wifey and the other couples wives have the riding itinerary planned. Only doing the Dragon one way then hit the circle and make the big mansion near Ashville I think. The water fall is definitely on the list. The circle should get us back to the campground. Smokey Mountain Harley is a must sounds like. Thank you all once again for the great ideas.
