Default cost of chroming fork sliders?

I hope they misunderstood me. I called a local independent shop about getting my lower fork sliders chromed. Was told would be about $300 with $100 to $150 for shipping. I see that I can order some from Zanotti's for $279.
Anyone else have their's done lately and if so how much?

You can easily get a whole chrome factory new fork kit for under $250 on ebay. The best deal I've scored was $125 shipped. Brand new in the box genuine HD kit.

$100 seems like a lot of cash to ship two fork sliders there and back.

I see a set of chromed Rocker rims on ebay for $850 exchange or $1300+ without exchange.
HD sells them for $350 a piece no exchange needed.

Just buy new chromed lowers and save the downtime and yourself some cash.

+1 on the eBay thing. I bought brand new Harley chrome fork sliders on ebay. They were $150 shipped. They are also the dual front brake setup. Which the dealers wanted $300 for Not to mention the labor to install them.

I planned on either polishing the crap out of these which hasn't gotten them to where I want them or buying some off of the internet.

I was just wondering if aftermarket chroming is getting that expensive.

The guy told me that they use a special three step process. The one's in the HD catalog also say three step process.

So I guess I didn't do a good job asking my question. Is chroming getting that expensive?

I had the footpeg clevis chromed. The MOCO doesn't make a chrome one. I took it to a local chromer. He told me he would do it , but I had to wait until he had enough other stuff to chrome, to make it worth dipping in the solutions. He wasn't going to dip such a small piece by itself. I got it back in a week . It looks sweet. He charged me $10

Take them apart, sand them down with 80 grit, then go to 150, 220, 400, 600, up to 2000 or better 6000. You'll get a mirror finish that looks better then chrome. If you have a belt grinder, like the craftsman 2x42, it won't take you too long, and cost you the money for the belts only.
