Default Minor accident

I just got in a minor accident, first on my Fatbob. Just got back from the Florence Prison Run and been ridin all day in the rain w/ no incidents. As I am pulling up to my apartment complex, the clown in front of me stops short. In turn, I slam on the brakes and the bike goes down on the right side. Exhaust is scraped up, right foot control is f**ked, brake lever, turn signal, little scuff on the headlight, but the bulk of the damage is on the tank. I hava a $1000 deductable on my bike. Question is, do I try to replace the parts myself and live with some of the little stuff, or do I claim it and get all new parts? I know this is quite a general question w/out seeing the damage but any advice would be great.

Get an estimate to see what it would cost to fix. If it's way above your deductible claim it. If not do it yourself. Either way sounds like your gonna wind up spending money.

Ouch, I feel for you. Maybe you can find some take-off or used parts that can be refurbished and painted to match. Good luck with it.

Your Insurance must be dirt cheap with such a high deductable ?
From the damage you listed you should be over $1000 !

This, I'm still trying to fix the last few little scratches and scars on my bike and my laydown was probably 6 months ago. Fix the vital things first, then score the rest of the parts as you can

Hate to say it but it sounds like you left not quite enough room between you and the vehicle in front. Sorry to hear about the damage, though.
