The ten thousand involves a lot more than an oil change. So are you going to do it yourself or have your local harley dealer do it for about $750.

Local dealer does it for $329! If the dealer does it for that an Indy should be at around 70% of that price at most.

Ya, without pulling out the paper work, I remember mine was less than $400 and I have a Springer. I'm sure price varies by location... and the greed factor.

Why do some people think that "service" is only an oil change?

I do my own work as much as possible on my bikes and I also don't hold anything against a guy who takes his bike in for service. It's whatever you are capable of. What I'm wondering is how much of the listed service tasks the dealer/indy REALLY does to your bike. If I was going to pay $300-$500 to have my bike serviced, I would want to know exactly what they did and would want to watch them do it. There is a procedure called "steering fall away" or something like that listed on one of the service intervals for my Road king. I checked mine and it is a fairly time consuming job. I suspect that the dealer/indy doesn't take the time to do these things.

How about it? Do those of you who take your bike in for service really know that everything on the service list was done?
