Although Labor rates and service charges are high at dealers they are posted and people can decide if they want to have it done or not...I had my dealer do my 20k minus the fluids and they charged me $110 i think...Now i have a manual...The only thing i need done now is lube my cables and my neck bearings....

Just another stupid bash the dealer thread.

It just cracks me up they always will end up bashing techs and letting loose of money. To me just American bashing American.

It is worth my money to get a train tech on and employ someone. You want to hang on to your scratch and do a shade tree job on your rig, more power to you.

It's the same as you car really... what are you willing to do on your car and how confident are you about what you are doing... Sometimes it's woth having somebody qualified to do the work actually do it...Some techs at M/C and auto dealers shouldn't be working there that is the truth but for most part they do a good job.

10,000 mlie service is $450 at my local dealership. As a matter of fact, I'm dropping mine off tomorrow to get this done.

had the dealer do the 1,5,10,15,20K,,, never more than $250.
At the 15k took in my oils..it was $158.

As far as the above list of Service breakdown.... don't believe they do all that, at least on mine..

It does say Recommended!

Had to do my own spokes after I checked them after the 10K, once had a motor miss at 16k because the battery bolts were loose. Neck bearings needed a lot more grease also.

I took my new-to-me 99 Dyna FXD to my local indy this morning. They charge $180 +fluids for a 10K check ... totalled out at $238 (I took his recommendation for heavier transmission fluid).

They actually used the 50K checklist (for the 10K price), and I watched the tech check each item off the list as he did it. For a new owner, it was GREAT! I asked a ton of questions, and the tech (and the shop owner) answered every one, and some I didn't even know to ask.

Also got to watch how the owner talked with the other customers who came in - and had my first up-close encounter with a RUB, and with an old 1%er. Gotta say the club member was a lot nicer.

I do mine and alot of my friends in my garage. Not that difficult after you understand it and get the right tools. saved myself and my friends lot of cash even factoring in the cost of the tools
