Default license plate reflector legal texas hack ?

Got the wide glide inspected for state of texas inspection today. I was informed by the dealer that they are required to put at least 1 reflector screw on the plate holder before it left the store, as it is required on license plates by the state of Texas. The service guy handed over 1 of the hd skull collection screws and said whatever happens after I leave is up to me.

I love hacking stuff, so i drilled a hole through the plate and holder for the (@#$%*&) reflector button and but the skull screw back on. pic attached.

looks good to me. My interpretation is that only 1 rear red reflector is required and the state requires it just to make sure everyone has one. Per attached pic and ' http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/pubs/vide...motorcycle.pdf '

wide glide already has a rear deflector on the fender, so another one isn't going to hurt, getting pulled over, etc.

Next time I see the mounted police officer at the store I will ask.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Texas Transportation Code - Section 502.409

(a) A person commits an offense if the person
attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or
registration insignia that:

(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker,
decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and
that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers on
the plate or the name of the state in which the vehicle is
registered,

(7) has a coating, covering, or protective material
that:
(A) distorts angular visibility or
detectability
(B) alters or obscures the letters or numbers on
the plate, the color of the plate, or another original design
feature of the plate.

Seems to me that as long as it doesn't interfer with the visibility it's legal even though the plate has been altered by drilling a hole in it.

My sporty passed it's state inspection yesterday (not at a dealer) and I don't have any reflectors on the plate. As long as there is one red reflector on the bike facing rear traffic, you're good. Taillight lenses count if they have a reflective area.
Last year I put a reflector screw on the plate (belt and suspenders), but this year I forgot.

Edit: I think you have mutilated your plate.

I would have just replaced one of those Willie G.
bolts with it until I got back to the house. I have
been in prison for 13 years with weekends off
though so I think like a felon at times.

Why would you drill a hole through the plate rather than simply using one of already-existing holes?

Not illegal, just dumb. (not you) As long as your tail light has a reflector in it your good to go. Unless thats the issue. Do you have a after market taillight without a built in reflector?

All that is required is the plate be illuminated and a reflector on the rear of the bike. Doesnt have to be on the plate.
