Default Riiding in the salt

I've been seeing more and more Harleys out these last few days. we have had no rain since the last salting. There is alot of that crap on everything. Is anyone riding on here? What are you doing washing it everytime you ride or not worrying about it?
I've seen many disposible bikes out but they dont count.

I ride when I get a chance and don't worry much about it.

The melting snow washes alot of the salt away.

Salt washes off... having it sit on a bike for a few days or a week ain't gonna melt the bike into a pile of rust.

As soon as the streets clear here, I'm getting mine out, no need to wait for rain. Just have to wait for the 2 feet of snow / ice in the alley to melt before I can maneuver into the streets!

I've been out of few times over the winter....there have been similar threads about once a week. Still a lot of snow on the ground...but when we've had days where the temps went up in the mid 40's and past....I've gone out.

What I noticed this year, my town is no longer using the old sand and salt on the roads, but they spray down a clear fluid...made up of some salt, also sugar and a few other things. Better news for vehicles of all types.

However, I still wash the bike when I get home. I connect my hose (winter it stays disconnected and coiled up in the garage)....rinse down the bike good...spray up underneath the fenders, underneath the engine, drain and coil up hose and put in garage again. And then try my bike..and roll her back in the garage. So I need to return from my ride in time to get all that done before the temps get down below freezing again.

Some others on the forums state that the salt will mess up a set of rims. If so, I'd imagine that if you give them a hosing down after riding you'd be good to go.

Could be brine. That's what they've been using down here in the south. Only lasts for 72 hours, or so they say.

I take my bike out for the year once the snow is gone and the rain has washed away the salt . But I don't buy a new bike ever 2 years or every time a new color comes out either .

Could be brine. .
Yup that's a name for it...as brine is a mixture of salt and water and optionally other things. One thing I noticed that's nice about it...don't get that white covering over everything....my Jeep is black...in past winters you'd see the white all over it from the salt from the roads. This new mixture hardly leaves any behind.

I've ridden both bikes on the 6th of February and rode last weekend on both. I'll probably wash both bikes Thursday and Friday. But here in Maryland, we are not expecting any rain till next week. Not really to concerned about the salt, because chrome does not rust like regular metals do. My buddy freaks out about the salt on the roads and washes his bike every time after winter riding. We'll see if there is any pitting, but I doubt it.
