Default Police Bike Auctions

Can anyone point me towards police bike auctions in the western states? I'm looking to buy either an Electra Glide or Road King from a P.D. or Sheriff Dept. at auction. Thanks.

I watched the dealer websites until I found the one I wanted.

Another option you may want to pursue are police bikes (FLHTPI/Electra Glide or FLHTP/Road King) that were never used for law enforcement, but were leased to motorcycle escort companies near you. In Atlanta there are two relatively large motor escort companies that primarily escort funeral processions. They lease the bikes from a local dealer for a year and turn the bikes in for replacement in November through February of each year. These are typically birch white in color, are well-maintained with maintenance histories from the leasing dealer, come with new tires since the cop tires are removed and replaced with OEM tires, and typically are listed on the floor for $14,995, but you can usually deal on that number because that price is actually HIGHER than the MSRP for a cop bike brand new. Check with the dealers to see if they supply police bikes to the local police agency. If so they normally take the bikes back in after they go out of service and sell them off at a pretty decent price. I chacked with one of mine and he told me in the next 2-3 mo. they would have some more that were replacing the exsisting fleet. You might have to ask my dealer kept the bikes in the rear of the dealer shop before they put them on the used bike lot.

Our agency should get their 07 Road Kings in about March or so, and will then trade those back in a year later.

I am planning on waiting til those 07s get turned back in (usually with 6000 miles or less), and buy one of em.

Excuse my ignorance, it is not possible for a civilian to buy a new one then? Our motors ride BMW's and are switching to Honda's, but I just noticed there's a black RK sitting out in the parking garage (a demo bike I'm guessing), really cool looking.

If you can't buy a police bike new, can you get a Road King w/ ABS? I don't see that as an option on the HD website, except on the LEO bikes.

No, it is not possible for someone to purchase or for that fact order a Service Unit....

You can either purchase a used one, or if you get lucky, a demo (2005 FLHTPi w/ABS), less than 1000 mi, white and bone stock....

07' are supposed to come with either 103 or 110 inch engines. Not sure which, but, I read it somewhere.

I would think twice about buying a used police bike. I know a Motorcycle Sgt at the local PD and she told me to never buy one. The PD's bikes are worked on by a city employee that went through some of the Harley courses. Only in rare instances would they be allowed to have the Harley shop work on their bikes. Plus, they run their bikes into the ground, so to speak. In other words, they don't ride them like they own them.

The police touring bikes are sold and leased to private/civilian motorcycle escort businesses, not just to law enforcement agencies.

Check around for such a business in your area. In the Atlanta area the bikes are leased for a year and returned to the dealer who then sells them.

I would be cautious about buying a police model that was used for law enforcement purposes because of the long idling they often do, the often slow speed useage, etc. But a police model used for escort duty will typically be a well-maintained bike that the leasing dealer has the service records availaable for your inspection prior to purchase.

If you want a new one, call around to HD dealers to see what paperwork they will require to sell you the bike; this will require a company of some kind (usually a corporation) and a business license. This paperwork is furnished to MOCO to support the dealership's order for the bike. Forming a corporation costs about $500 or less and the business license may be $100 or so. Even with that expense, getting a 2007 police touring bike with a 110 inch motor is an attractive proposition to some folks, especially since the MSRP on them is less than an EG Standard. HTH
