Magnum Research Junk Cable

Magnum Research Junk Cable
Hi All,
I need to vent. After spending $75.86 on a Magnum Research Clutch Cable that was so poorly engineered that it ended up breaking when trying to get it out of the bike, I am beyond fed up with the response from the vendor...
My indy calls me and says that the cable is no good. He thinks it's because the connecter that threads into the trap door is too long, the wrong thread pitch, or is distorted.
I call Magnum Research to say that I ordered a clutch cable and that it isn't working. Can't get the cable to move AT ALL. The liner moves, but not the cable.
Magnum Research's response is that I will need to send the cable back to have it QA'd and then if it's determined to be a manufacturer's defect they will provide a replacement.
I tell them that sounds awesome for them but does absolutely nothing to help me. My bike is sitting at my indy's shop waiting on this cable. It's costing him time and me money to not have the cable.
They then tell me that they need to get authorization to let me order a second one that they will charge me for and then maybe at some point in the future they will credit me back.
WTF!!!!
They need to get authorization to LET me buy a cable? Are these people retarded?
I'm waiting for the call back from Magnum Research when my indy calls to tell me that the end just broke off of the cable trying to get it out.
Great!
Magnum calls back and I tell them about the cable end. They immediately shift into blame and denial mode telling me they aren't going to replace the end, its not covered under warranty. And oh by the way, nothing about whether I was AUTHORIZED to spend more money with them on a second cable that has the same defective, wrong length, wrong thread connector.
I ask straight up if that is how they are going to stand behind their products. I tell them that my indy is the only certified mfg of bikes in PA and had never heard of their cables. His one experience (after I asked to use them) is now that they are junk and that the vendor doesn't stand behind them.
I mention that I heard about them on these forums and that I am just as happy to let everyone on here know of the unbelievable arrogance and attitude I received from them. So now you know. They didn't seem particularly threatened by bad PR, so I guess their products are so scary good that you should keep buying them anyway.
Hopefully it was worth $75

It sounds pretty standard what they did. Send back the messed up cable, and they will send you a new one if your Indy didn't break it and it was an actual defect. Pretty normal. I guessing you are misunderstood about the "authorization"...I would think they would let you buy a second cable no prob, but an RMA would need to be issued for the credit.
That said,
I paid a fortune for magnums and I feel their outer shielding is terrible. Mine is wear after about 300 miles of having them on. I would not buy them again. My other cables on my other bike are still going strong.

Let's see, your indy can't tell if the thread is the wrong pitch, distorted or just too long but he installed it anyway and breaks it trying to get it back out.
See if he will replace the cable and find a new indy.
Did you order the parts through the indy or did you place the order yourself? If you ordered them yourself did you check that the right parts were ordered and received?

Magnum Research is the manufacturer of the Magnum cables in any of the catalogs. I've used alot of their stuff and it is high quality. I did have an issue once where they mis-shipped the wrong cable, I had to pay for a new one, get an RA to return the one THEY shipped in error and return it on my dime. CS is a little weak, but the product is excellant.
