Protecal for parking right in front of a store?
#161
I see it from time to time. A motorcycle parked not in the parking lot but on the sidewalk entrance area to a store (fry's best buy etc etc)
It's been all different types of bikes, Harleys, Hondas and from cruisers to crotch rockets.
Just wondering what is with it and the protocal I guess.
Interesting question I think
Thanks

The children are under supervision they are on a sidewalk with emphasis on the "WALK" part. If the motorcyclye was in a parking lot with emphasis on the "Parking lot" part, I would take full responsibility for my childrens actions. If my child got burned by hot pipes in a parking spot it would be a tough lesson learned and I would not remotely blame the motorcycle owner, that would be ludicrous. And yes I think my child is special, and no they don't get to run wild but they should be able to walk on a sidewalk without running into what is probably an illegally parked bike and getting burned. My children respect other peoples property and would never touch someones bike without permission. But once again a sidewalk is for pedestrians, they are what 4 feet wide, a child walking with a parent holding hands(under supervision) or in a stroller (under supervision)could easily touch a very hot part of a just parked motorcycle, I am simply saying what I would do to said motorcycle and said owner if it was my child.
Your kid touches a hot pipe, it's YOUR bad, regardless of where a bike is parked. Especially with "dad" being familiar with bikes.
It's DAD's job to take care of his kids and keep them out of harms way.
YOU are responsible, he is counting on YOU to keep his hands off hot pipes. He touches my hot pipes, don't blame me for your lack of attention.
You better have a hanky to wipe off the little fingerprints. WTF
Don't put your child raising responsability on us. Ain't goin' for it.
Got my hands full with my own 4 kids. You raise your own. I ain't doin' it for you.
You tell your kid to keep his hands off other peeps bikes.
Show some respect for your fellow bikers. WTF
Sit here and look for excuses to bust our *****.
Wazza matta you! LOL

This is an satallite view of our local WalMart. You can see the parking lot at the top left corner of the photo that is at the front of the store. If you look, you can see the shadow where the front doors to the store are located at the very top left corner of the building. For scale, you can see the sidewalk leading from the left of the photo to the front of the building and that is about four feet wide. You can also see the size of the cars in the parking lot to again get the scale of the area on the "sidewalk" where I park.
To the right of the front doors you'll see where the building's roof "steps back". In front of this location you see a large open area with a couple rows of trees in cement planters that stretches all the way to the garden center which is at the upper right corner of the photo (two pitched roofs and a green "netting" roof). If you look closely you can see the red fire lane stripes and yellow pedestrian rumble strip in front of this area that runs along the entire front side of the building.
It is in this area where I park my bike "on the sidewalk". I park it right about where you can see the white cargo van parked in that area (the one completely in the sun, not the one closer to the front of the store that is in the shade and parked in the fire lane), which is a sidewalk, right where the area begins to the right of the front door area. There would be NO REASON for anyone to be walking in that area if they are going from the parking lot to the store.
So YES, if you're daughter got back there, and touched my hot pipes, it would be a PARENTING issue and not because my bike is parked "on a sidewalk". As a matter of fact, you should thank me for parking my bike in such an out of the way location that your daughter would have to TRY to burn herself on my bike.
These are the kinds of areas "on the sidewalk" where I park my bike. They are out of the way, not in the flow of traffic, and not bothering anyone.
As a side note, Walmart has never given me any grief about parking my motorcycle there and I have regularly seen other motorcycles park there as well. Local PD cannot write me a ticket there UNLESS WalMart asks them to because the parking lot is PRIVATE PROPERTY. Now many times whoever owns the property will have a arrangement with local law enforcement to enforce any and all traffic issues within their property but it is still up to the owner as to whether or not you will be cited or not.

I'm confused. Could you add some circles & arrows to this photo? That would be cool.
I parked on a sidewalk today. That was cool.
No children were injured in the commission of this act. That was cool too.

I rode to work this afternoon. Parked on the sidewalk between two of those upright yellow concrete poles, since some of my coworkers don't believe in checking their mirrors before backing up.
As of the time of this writing, no little children had wandered up to injure themselves on my bike, and no Canadians appeared to be waiting to give me any lumps.

I park on sidewalks and I also try to put the pipes close to the building for courtesy. As for kids, I like kids and have 2 myself. BUT if they touched someone elses bike, they would be in trouble no matter where it is parked. There are too many idiots that will hit the bike and leave if it is in a parking space. It is too easy for thieves to pull up in a pickup or van, slide the bike inside and take off while blocked by other parked vehicles. And if anybody saw it, they would never say a word. You got to look out for yourself. Rude? maybe, but I still got my bike

Fellow biker talking about "what he'd do to another Harley if his kid touched it".
I am flabbergasted that someone would openly talk like that to other Harley owners.
We park where we park cuz we worship our machines, and a fellow rider talking smack about damaging one of our precious jewels?
Alls I can say is:
Bwahahaha!
Gomer would be sayin': "Shame,... shame,..."
