Man, some of you guys ask the craziest things! Really, there are no rules/laws about gremlin bells. They really were never that big a deal. And as far as "etiquette" (really, etiquette?) check your Emily Post. (google it)

Now I cant speak for the effectiveness of a bell in a crash. for me it's about friendship, nostalgia and comraderie.
I purchased bells for both of my younger brothers when the got their bikes. Both have since went down, the youngest ones accident was particularly bad but both made it thru fine. First thing I pulled off his bike when we picked it up from the tow yard was that bell, took it to him and explained that somehow it musta worked.
It's about knowing someone gives enough of a damn about ya to make the effort.

Depends on what you want to believe...
- Some say the bell protects the rider - so it should go w/person who received
- Some say it protects the bike - so it should stay w/vehicle

I'd do what you believe...

I think I'll hang a bell from my keyboard to protect the computer, one from my fridge to protect the beer, and one from my zipper to protect the jewels.

I think my sister had bells on her baby shoes. I have a bell on my door at my business when it rings I may get lucky and make a sale so I gess it works. Sometimes on a farm when it was time to eat you would here a bell.. My church has a bell but I dont see it much.

The bell on my Train was given to me years ago by one of the best women I've ever known in my life. It's graced my last 3 bikes over many thousands of miles, and there's love and magic in that bell.

I also have a St Christopher medal strapped to the frame, and that was given to me by the same lady...and in the fork bag is a small laminated card with "The Hebrew Prayer For Travelers" given to me by a close friend.

It's a cold world out there, and I feel blessed knowing that there are people who care enough about me to gift me with those things, along with their love and prayers...

I had a bell and still managed to hit the truck head-on. So, if there's any safety that goes along with a bell...... well then mine was broken. I only had a bell because the HD dealer told my wife to get it for me. I didn't want any part of it, but I couldn't see past them sad eyes of my wife when I expressed my dislike of a bell on a bike. So I installed the bell she got me and happiness was restored.
