Ride Bell Etiquette
#22
If you leave it. It becomes a gift to the next owner. If it was a gift to you, I would keep it.
The only rule I follow is no more that six bells on one bike.
I have been riding since 1956 and have ridden over much of the continent without even going down. How did that happen? Huh,huh, huh.

Just a cultural thing. No big deal. But they work really, really well. My wife gave me mine (took her over 2 months to find the right one). It couldn't have come with any more love than that. I would also keep it with the new bike.

Having the bell hooked to your assless chaps also alerts the guys that like men in assless that you are in the area!

Holy cow, I ask about etiquette and get lectured on beliefs (which had nothing to do with the question).
Since it was a gift from the hubby, I will transfer it to the new bike - thanks to all those that answered the question as asked!
Great idea, thanks!

File off the broken eye loop, drill a hole in the top of the bell, where the eye loop used to be. Tie some kind of stop, a small nut for instance, to the end of a string and thread it through the hole in the top of the bell.

My Dad always loved the Harley hats I'd buy for him. So when he was spending his last days in the hospital, I bought a bell and attached it to his hospital bed.
After my father died, my Mom gave the bell back to me...and I promptly put it on my bike. It's not on there because of some tradition, superstition or feeling of brotherhood. It's on there because I love my Pop, and really miss him....
To answer your question, do with the bell what feels good to you.

I still cant believe some still think the bell will protect you from a crash. Its a Gremlin bell its suposed to keep the little rascals from sabotaging your bike. Look real close and you will see mine.
Keep the bell!
Keep the bell!
