Ride Bell Etiquette

Does that mean you don't believe in Santa Claus or the tooth fairy

Nothing wrong with having a bell and believing in it. I have given many to friends and one to a stranger, was in the dealership, when a bike is sold they ring a big ships bell, everyone claps. I walk over bought the bell, went to the sales booth and handed the bell to the owner of a new Ultra. We shook hands and I walked away. Short while later the owner of the dealership found me and thanked me for this. It was my pleasure.

I think they work, if you didn't have one you might have been in a more serious wreck, my daughter took mine to ccd and had the priest bless it, just to be on the safe side. I have St. Christopher on my bell.

When I bought my Road King, the previous owner left the bell on the bike. It had been on the bike when he bought it from the first owner who was a preacher (Hell's Riders or Raiders or something like that). The guy I bought the bike from quit riding because his wife (who had a 1200 Sportster) quit riding. He owned the bike (RK) for all of two weeks. He really didn't want to sell, but his wife was adamant. My good fortune, not due to the bell, but good fortune for me anyway.
I decided to keep the bell because it's a reminder. I looked for a Road King for almost a year before this one came up. Sure I had plenty of opportunities, but nothing ever worked out until the current bike. It's not because of the bell, it's because of my persistent searching and effort. The bell reminds me that you can have good fortune. When a buddy of mine bought an Ultra (sold his Fatboy), I gave him a gremlin bell. Doesn't have anything to do with luck, but it has everything to do with tradition, friendship, and community. We are brothers of the road and we ride Harley's.
