Anyone bought a brand new bike recently?
Just wondering if anyone has bought a brand new bike recently and if so why they did that over buying used. I can remember about 5 years ago when used bikes cost the same or more as new and if you could wait a year it made sense to buy new. But in this market it seems like a good majority of clean, low mile bikes are selling for 10-12K (many of them with thousands in extras). And by no means am I knocking anyone for buying new, just curious to see what other peoples situations are...

I bought new in 2009 and trade in for new in 2010.
The original reason was because the price difference was only about $2000 and I wanted an extended warranty. Then when I traded in it was because I couldn't get my mind off the Lo. I never looked back.

I bought new back in June 2010. I looked at a few used bikes, but I am pretty picky and anything that looked good enough to me was almost as much as new.
My dad always says to be real careful about buying anything used. You just might be buying somebody's problem. I have witnessed this very thing on several occasions. If you don't know a person very well, you never know how the bike has been treated.

I bought my new Limited in September 2010. There were a few reasons why new was the right choice for me...
- I plan to keep it forever so the additional cost amortized over all the years is not that significant
- I want to know the bikes history from day 1
- I wanted a bike that would only be worked on by myself
- I want to do the initial break in - those initial miles are important - like the initial 500 & 1500 mile oil changes on mine that most used bikes probably never had
- I want to keep it looking 'like new' as much and as long as possible and that's so much easier to do when you actually start from new
- I did look at a few used bikes but each showed varying signs of neglect that I'd never be happy with in the long run
- I get to do only the mods that are important to me

Buying a good used bike which are easy to find in this economy is the best way to go.
I have never followed my own advice very often. My last five were new. However two before that were low mile pristine bikes at a very fair price.

Since I was getting back to riding after 40 years, I didn't consider anything but new. I didn't want to take the chance of getting someone else's problems, I wanted to start with a clean slate.
