Rides in SF Bay Area?
#11
Well,
Looks like we're moving again. This time from San Diego to San Francisco Bay Area, specifically, the peninsula. Sure don't want to leave.
Up here for a week looking for housing, interviewing for jobs etc. Have family here and am a little familiar with the area.
We have been spoiled by the great San Diego riding, with empty back roads through mountains etc and am gravely concerned that there are no decent roads in the area that don't have a billion cars and bikes on them. 101 is a nightmare. 280 is better. Been on 35 and 1, beautiful but crowded with sports bike squids whizzing passed me in my lane, passing on the blind curves etc, 1 is nice but crowded and slow.
Any suggestions? (other than staying in San Diego!)
Sh*t, sure wish I could stay south.
Thanks,
Arthur

We are originally from Silicon Valley, we moved to the Sierra foothills about 20 years ago. That area has changed alot from the old days, but there are still alot of nice roads to ride. Try Hwy 9 (as mentioned) to Alice's, then loop around to Hwy 1 along the coast thru Santa Cruz, then back on Hwy 9 thru Boulder Creek, beautiful ride. Another nice day trip is to hop on 101 to Hollister, where you can stop at "Johnny's" in the middle of town. If you dont' like car traffic, go on Little Panoche Road, very twisty nice back road popular with bikers, and there is a nice little biker bar out in the middle of nowhere, then you can get back on I-5, which will take you just about anywhere you want to go.
