Question Are black bikes that bad to keep looking clean?

Black bikes look great with all that chrome, etc... but I've heard LOTS of folks complaining and saying that they'll never get another black bike again because there so hard to keep looking clean. Apparently you can't get rid of swirl marks and the dust always shows up.

Is it really all that bad or does it just require just an extra little touch or elbow grease with a polishing cloth or Swifter duster?

Are there ways to keep a black bike looking decent when out and around? Any tips or is it really the nightmare that many claim?

My last bike was black. It takes more effort to keep black paint looking good, but nothing shines better.

If you've ever had a black car, keeping your bike looking nice will be no problem.

If your riding fast enough people don't see the swirl marks.

Default Not a Nightmare but

I've had two black HD's and I learned the hard way on the first one. I don't rub anything without a microfiber cloth and only a microfiber cloth. You can't get away from some swirl marks but there are several products that do a good job of removing them. I like Mothers Scratch Remover and Meguiar's Scratch X. I've seen just as many swirl marks on other colors. Your best bet is never wipe anything off with any old rag. I carry several microfiber cloths in the bags and reach for them first. Go for the black just be careful.

Really not that bad. It does take a little extra effort but you cant beat the look of Black & Chrome.Remember some guy's just like to complain.

I stopped cleaning all together. I wash and wax maybe once a year now. My RK is a daily rider....just dont have the time to shine it like the bikes prior to it. Longest its gone between washes was Sturgis 07 to May of 09. Still looks good.
