Saw an accident today and....
While heading out for dinner with my wife tonight, we crossed an intersection where an accident had just taken place. A beautiful Indian M/C t-boned a car. I don't know the exact details, but it appears from the way the vehicles were resting that the car was turning left at the stop sign. The M/C was approaching from his left with no light or sign in his direction and was heading straight through the intersection. The car pulled out and the M/C t-boned the car.
As I was passing through the intersection, they were loading the M/C rider into the ambulance and I couldn't help but think.... "Man, I hope he was wearing a helmet." Here in Connecticut, there is no helmet law and most of the Harley riders don't have one on. I wear a full-face helmet each and every time I ride and I'm just wondering what, if any, kind of helmet do you wear? What state (or province, country, etc.) are you from and is it law there?
Also, I've found that here in Connecticut, where there is no helmet law, I don't get waved to as often as when I ride outside my state. Is it because of the full-face helmet? Do they think I'm metric and snub me? I wave at everybody, regardless of the bike's make.

Helmets revisited...bottom line, do what you like and feel safe with and screw the idiots who want to dictate to you otherwise.
Concerning the down rider, hope he is okay.

As to the downed rider, my hopes for his/her well being.
As to another post pushing helmets, yawn, yawn. Get a f***n' life.

Yeah well but, here in St George, home of the community support for the unfortunate, recently held a fund raiser for a cyclist languishing in a Las Vegas hospital with severe brain injury. He is 24, I think, riding a Wide Glide, no helmet. Got taken out by an old lady who didn't see him coming down a 35mph street. I would venture to say, if he could do it all over again, he would have worn a helmet.
A year and a half ago, another young cyclist not wearing a helmet on a dirt trail, crashed and wound up a near vegetable. His father happens to be the local MSF instructor.
Sure, each individual can decide for himself whether or not to wear a helmet, or other protection for that matter. But you don't get to decide the consequences of ignoring safety.
No wonder the medical community calls motorcyclists "organ donors".[:@]

I recently started wearing a helmet when I found a DOT half helmet that was in my price range, comfortable, and didn't look like a giant mushroom on my head. It is not mandatory here in Minnesota, but I put a lot of time in on my bike every year and I've read waaaay too many reports of accidents this year. I just figured my number may be coming up after 17 years of riding with no helmet.
