Let the dealer install it or not?

Let the dealer install it or not?
I will apologize upfront for the noob questions.
I was at the dealer yesterday talking about doing a stage 1 upgrade. I have an 2007 StreetGlide and it is my first HD bike after riding a Honda for many years.
I've read a ton of threads on here about adding new slip-ons, air cleaner and programmer myself. It is something I could easily do myself however I always took my Honda to the dealer for any work just because of warranty issues.
Keeping in mind I am new to the HD world, should I buy and install all the stuff myself or buy it from the dealer and let them install it? I have the regular warranty and the extended warranty and I really don't want to risk losing coverage under the warranty if something goes wrong with the bike.

RE: Let the dealer install it or not?
You would have to take it to the dealer for a download but you could do a PCIII or Sert yourself if you really wanted to, although most would suggest a dyno tune with one of these units. The pipes/mufflers and air cleaner are easy do-it-yourself jobs if you want to save a few bucks. I just added those items myself ('06 Street Glide) and then trailered the bike to my dealer for the standard download ($148)...bike is running great.

I added slip-ons and SE A/C with a SERT to my Heritage. The dealer said that the warranty was ok except for "rideability" issues. I guess that means they won't correct tuning issues under warranty.

See what the service department at your dealership will do for you as far as installing then tuning the setup. Then ask about just doing the tune if you install the parts (bought at their place) yourself. Depending on how money driven the service department is, they might just like the idea of 'getting you in and out' with just a dyno tune.
If you don't like what ya hear....Move on.

Better yet, install everything yourself and then let an Indy do the tune...at least around here they seem to know more about it than the dealer techs[8D] May be different where you're from.

The high flow air filter and slip-ons are very easy to install. Typically 15 to 20 minutes for the high flow, and 45 minutes to an hour and a half for the slip-ons depending on the model and what you have to remove to get them off, The dealer will have to re-flash unless you do the SERT which you can use one of the canned MAPS, which will be better than the re-flash. It will definately lower the operating temperature of your bike

Do it all yourself, I just plugged in a PCIII yesterday on my stock 07 SG. Huge performance increase, takes care of the lean issue and can be taken off in minutes. Power Commander or fuelmotousa will have a map for just about any intake/exhaust combo you decide on. just keep your old stuff and if you ever have a problem put everything back to stock. Not really much work there.
I highly recommend getting the PCIII for your stock bike first, if you still want you can always do the intake exhaust later.
