I think a lot of these old bikes were ridden for a few years, and then parked. You can't think the owner put on "88 miles per year."

I found my '75 Triumph t150 literally buried in a garage full of junk, in 1996. It had sat for 15 years after its owner died, and I bought it from the widow. Even after all that time, with fresh fluids throughout, it started on the second kick. It had 7400 miles on it.

My '76 T160 I bought on ebay, had it shipped up from Texas, and has 7200 miles on it. I have not yet licensed or ridden it, but has doubled in value since I bought it.
Yellow circle ....

Also known as 'ham can' A/C cover ....

The Sportsters seem to have kept the design around ... used to be on quite a few of the models ... the basic design has been reintroduced as the 'Ventilator' A/C in the Screamin' Eagle parts lineup recently ....

........ and i KNOW there's an old honda 125 buried halfway down the hill behind my house. Hey, no one I knew would take it, Cycle Salvage wouldn't give me anything for it even if I hauled it 'cross town & dropped it off, so....... as I was doing a bit of landscaping out back I rode'r down the new trail, laid'r over behind the retaining wall & covered it up.
.... i'd never do that w/Harley.

Let me get this straight? You rode the bike down there? As in, it ran?? Then you just ditched it??

Not according to these guys and they happen to be in Japan.

Do you remember several years ago when all those collectors were throwing a big hissy fit because all of those Harley frames and motors where being shipped over to Japan? Well, thank God no one cared enough to have their mommy legislate against exporting!

Because now, they are being beaten within an inch of there lives roaring through the crowded streets of Tokyo and blasted up mountain roads at 100 mph on a daily basis. So now instead of never being ridden and sitting dry with no fluids in it so that it won’t leak on the hardwood floor it is being displayed on… any Ironhead, Shovel, Pan, Knuckle, or Flattie can expect a life of constant abuse in the land of the rising sun. I don’t know about you, but that makes me say yes to free trade!
