Good thread.

The answer is overseas, not just Japan. Ever wondered what happened to ALL of those Shovels that were traded in on Evos that were traded in on Twin Cams? Well, you don't see them on the road, and despite what people may think, there aren't that many sitting in old barns.

Believe me, I deal in parts on the side, very part time. But the little I do know, I know.

Well, I can tell you guys this...it might be a surprise to some, others not so much. But I attended the Long Beach (So-Cal) Swamp meet with a guy last summer...and two days later we were loading an entire shipping container full of HDs, HD parts and American muscle cars.

In August of '08, I was at the hotel bar at the Marriott (or Intercontinental or similar) in Suribaya, Indonesia and there was a cherry (what looked to be mid-30's to late 40's) flathead suspended upside down from the overhead ... ? I remember thinking what a waste ... a perfectly good Harley being used as decor/ornamentation ... WTF ...??

Ya know, back in high school, 1971, I bought a 1951 flat head. Only kept it about a year and sold it. And wonder a good bit if it is still around of melted into a car frame or something.

Surfor, I looked and looked, and can't figure out what you meant by "canned ham?"

I did notice the oil cooler, however, and the forward controls.

I think a lot of these old bikes were ridden for a few years, and then parked. You can't think the owner put on "88 miles per year."

I found my '75 Triumph t150 literally buried in a garage full of junk, in 1996. It had sat for 15 years after its owner died, and I bought it from the widow. Even after all that time, with fresh fluids throughout, it started on the second kick. It had 7400 miles on it.

My '76 T160 I bought on ebay, had it shipped up from Texas, and has 7200 miles on it. I have not yet licensed or ridden it, but has doubled in value since I bought it.
