do you carry, has then need arisen to use

A good dog is probably the best burgler deterent. But it doesn't need to be an either/or situation. The gun is for the burgler/rapist/psycho who gets past the dog.

Seriously, what you've said here clearly comes from having no experience or training with guns. Most of it is the standard knee-jerk liberal responses, copied from typical "I'm afraid of guns" web sites. I can understand a dog looking like an option, but only to somebody who is as afraid of dogs as guns.
I've spent 24+ years learning about the subject, using guns, training people (police, military and civilians) to use guns, training people in the law related to use of force, etc. Around here, the police rarely hesitate to recommend to crime victims that they get a gun. In at least one case, I've see a police officer loan a gun to a victim, while the gun he had used in a shooting was in evidence. As I said, I have only used my gun on duty. But my wife's grandmother has used her S&W .38 twice since 2007 against burglars/home invaders and she lives in what would appear to be a peaceful, semi-rural area. Without the gun she would have had NO options - it's not New York and the nearest police could be half an hour to an hour away. My mother has used a gun to stop attempted burglars twice in my life.

Here's the memphis newspaper. http://www.wreg.com/ Front page of todays paper murder of a University of memphis football player. What? A university of memphis student, according to you it only happens to the lower class. I'm afraid you live in a make believe world where there are nothing but rainbows and fairy tales. Oh yeah, my friend is a millionaire many times over so I just don't take merit in the fact that it only happens to the lower class.
Why? You don't trust yourself to have enough self control not to commit murder? I've been carrying a gun since 1987 (including M-16's, since 1983) and have never felt like I couldn't control myself, even when looking through the sights at a guy with a gun or knife. I realize you are probably being sarcastic, otherwise I'd say see a shrink, before you lose control and start running over people in your car/truck.

I carry a Glock 27 - never leave home without it. My wife just got her carry permit and I bought her a Ruger LCP .380 for Christmas. At night, my Mossberg Defender is next to the bed.
I haven't had to produce any of them yet, and hopefully I never will.

I always carry on the bike, and basicly it is always in reach! The question of showing it is kinda dumb! In the eyes of the court you have to feel your life is danger to show so you better have a good case! But if you do show it and not use it and get questioned, just say it was on your hip and the accusing party saw it there!
I never pulled either out of 13 years! But did feel really safe in life when attached
Would love to have this on my hip!
