Buying used out of state
#11
I've bought a couple out of state. One was 4 states away and I hauled a trailer down and trailered it back. The other I bought a one way flight ticket and rode her home. I've looked into shipping and you can get a bike crated and shipped for an amount that I feel is reasonable, under $900. Any way will work. Do what's best for you.

clear here now all the way to New Mexico. If you have the time it would be a good ride if the bike is set up for touring. If it is a cruiser - ship it!. good luck! 57 here near the end of the week so I may get a few miles in if I can find a clear road.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience buying a Harley out of state and having it shipped to you?
Was thinking about buying new but there are quite a few good deals with bikes with less than 1000 miles on them for sale.
I can fly out and test ride it and ship it to my house for less than what I can buy a new one.
Curious to see if anyone else has gone this route.

I also sold my chopper on eBay to a guy in NYC and I trailered the bike and delivered it to the buyer on a summer weekend. No trucking company would deliver the bike in Manhattan. They all wanted to drop off the bike in NJ. He paid ALL my expenses for 2 persons (2 nights and 2 days in NYC) plus gas for the roundtrip. It cost the buyer $150 more than having it shipped but he saw me in person, we talked about the bike and he thought it was well worth the difference in cost.

I've bought four out of state. Rode two home, picked up one and shipped one.
My advise, do your homework... Have not had any problems with my purchases. Spent a lot of time on the phone with sellers asking questions...
Ain't eBay great... watch and wait and the deals will be there... act fast, get the facts, and sometimes you win...

I found my Street Glide on Ebay. From another forum i visit i got a guy to go by and check it out. He gave it an okay. I drove out with my open trailer, bought it, trailered it home in around 500 miles of rain . I have since had the SE compensator relaced under warranty. I was asked "what if it had made that "clank" when i cranked it in Texas ? I don't know what i would have done. Have someone check it for you if possible. IMO

Bought my Bad Boy from a guy in Arizona. I was lucky enough to have a forum member here live close to the seller. He test rode it for me.Got a great deal. It cost me 445 to have it shipped from Lake Havasu to Atlanta on a bonded private carrier delivered to my house. G.

The new bike showed up late yesterday afternoon in 6 degree weather.Could not be happier with shipping Co.Other than the bike being covered in frost it is perfect.

Bought mine from an auto dealer off of ebay and had it shipped. All went perfectly but it could have all gone wrong too. I would not have bought it from a private individual without traveling to see it first.

My purchase a bit different, flew in from UK to Savannah GA, picked up my RK, fitted my Florida custom tag, then rode it down to Tampa FL and registered it, not strictly legal way of doing it but the 354 mile ride swung it for me :-)
