decel pop
Hi all...hope your team is winning!!!
Last month I put on Stage 1 Screaming eagle high flow intake. Bike ran good but seemed "muddy" in spots.
2 weeks ago I put on Rush 1.75's. I had the dealer download Stage 1 to my ECM.
Bike has a little more umph to it but I am getting decel pop.. Its not loud but I know its not right.
I am not the most trusting soul on this earth...So, is there a way I can check to see if my ECM does indeed have stage 1 ?
AND, if all is working as intended is it time for Dyno Tune?
p.s. go greeeeenbay

Decel pop won't hurt anything, and you won't be able to further tune it without investing in a tuning device and also pay for a dyno tune.
The dealer flashes only get you close, they are not perfect.

Could make sure all everything is tight, clamps, bolts etc. Decel pop can be caused by a leak letting cooler air get sucked back in the exhaust. Had a crack in my x-over pipe got welded, viola all is good.

I really have no problems admitting, that I dont know the first thing about "self tuning" with any kit.

Previous owner of my bike put a SE Stage 1 kit in, added Pythons but never did anything else. Bought bike and had decel popping. Had the Power Commander III put in, dyno tuned and cylinders mapped, what a difference.

Deceleration Backfire is caused by fuel burning in the exhaust manifold or header.
A motor in perfect tune will exhibit deceleration backfiring.
No ifs ands or buts, that’s what causes it. But the bigger question is how does gas get there in the first place, and that’s a bit more complicated. Generally, there are a variety of ways it gets there, and a variety of things that can make the backfiring worse. But there’s a kicker, and something you should understand before we go any farther:
Getting rid of the noise means de-tuning your motor.
This is what I've always read. My Heritage was dyno tuned and has a slight decel popping. I like it but to each his own. The indy that did the work said he could tune it out and I knew that meant detuning the engine so I left it alone.

I had a pretty decent decel pop after having some work done. After alot of chasing my tail found out I had a bad spark plug, replaced it no pop. Worth checking, cheap and easy.
