If you can just spend money trying various seats (ask me) that might eventually make some incremental improvement. Or you might get lucky w/ your 1st attempt, or even have a custom seat made. But I'd bet it's not your seat at all, but rather your riding position, if it is one which places your torso too vertical or too far back. Try adjusting/changing your bars to allow you to lean forward slightly from where you are now. This takes the pressure off your tailbone, transferring some of it to your sit-bones & thighs.

If you are using forward controls, this also puts more pressure near your tailbone. Switching to mid controls (or just adding mid pegs for a second foot position) transfers some of your weight by putting your legs under you. I have mids + highway pegs, so I can change positions once in awhile, at appropriate times. On some bikes I've even used the passenger pegs for relief on long trips. Like w/ moving your throttle hand around to aid circulation and ease numbness.

Wearing padded bicycle shorts under your jeans may also bring some relief, particularly if you customize them.

I did a Mean City mod and it helped a lot. I recently had some spine x-rays for an unrelated problem, and it turns out that my tailbone was curved inwardly from a hockey incident many years ago. So, at least I know the biggest underlying reason for my pain in the ***.

Either better drugs,or a seat change.Bought a seat just to please the wife and it turned out to be the perfect long haul seat. The Harley PillowTop,and the right handle bars are a must.

If you have lower tailbone pain do yourself a big favor and check out Saddlemen Seats for their 'Road Sofa" seat with integral gel. Check out my garage to see what it looks like. It is incredibly comfortable with a built in back rest and really supports the gluts and thighs thereby taking the pressure off the tailbone.

Thumbs up

Try contacting Mean city Cycles. Meancitycycles.com
They can fix your seat. I had mine done last winter and after 1k (as they suggest) no MORE TAILBONE PROBLEMS. I think it was 125.00 but was well worth it.

+1 Ihad tail bone issues even with a Mustang Seat. Mean City suggested a cheaper mod than the one I was thinking of. I did it(Double memory foam) and used an airhawk. now no issues till i,m over 1000 miles! IMHO both are worth their weight in gold!

I have my Sundowner on my 05 RKing and it is excellent. I have often clocked over 600 miles a day for a couple weeks on end...no pain. I have also used my stock 2-up seat with no pain, but it definitely is not as comfortable. Bar position is very important for ergonomic posture on the bike. I have lower back problems with 3 discs completely gone and riding my bike is absolutely painless.
