Exhaust questions - baffles or no baffles
Can anyone tell me if running straight through or drag pipes with no baffles can or will damage my engine. I have heard that baffles create a back pressure the the engine needs in order to run efficiently. I have heard that running straight through pipes with no baffles is bad for your engine.
Can anyone confirm or deny this and give reasons why?
Thanks

A good exhaust system works to help the engine pull the spent gases away from the exhaust port without back surges or cyclonic wave walls. My 2 cents is buy a proven system, dont build your own if you dont know what your doing.

Open pipes won't hurt your motor, but they will result in power loss and pissed off neighbors.

I ran open drag pipes for years. Loved the sound. Couldn't believe the power gained when I installed Anti Reversion Cones.

I am not familiar with them.
I plan to buy Vance and Hines pipes and not install the baffles that you can buy that go along with the pipes.

I ran hooker pipes until the local leo got po'd by loud pipes. Put in homemade baffles, wow, what a difference in torque!!. For the fall flood run took them out, omg, so freakin loud, but really noticed the increased hp at higher rpm's however. Going back to the baffles, they sound best at the speeds I usually run anyhow. And no worries about getting bothered about loud pipes.
