Does anyone ride while taking blood thinner?

I wear a Medic Alert necklace (and have for about 15 years), and when I ride, I add a bright orange Medic Alert bracelet. They list all the meds and conditions I have, blood problems one of them (can't take thinners). In another life, maybe I wouldn't ride. In this one, I ride and will for as long as I can safely, blood problems or not. So unless the meds make it unsafe to ride, screw it just ride.

took fragmin injections in the stomach for 6 years ( like being on heprin drip 24/7 ) due to bloodclots that they gave me less than a 5% chance to live thru.now on coumadin... i was hit a year and half ago ( broke 7 ribs ) anyway while laying in the road waiting on paramedics, and thinking about internal bleeding ...iam not sure its a good idea ...i am continually second guessing myself now

Hmmm...wonder if the MoCo is reading this thread....might be time for a new CVO Ultra with the "Medic Alert" paint scheme
Of course it would have the optional Vitamin K drip

You can ride, but you have to be really careful. One big June bug at 60 mph and you are a dead man. Just a big splat on his itty bitty windshield. Just to turn the tables on us, they prescribe blood thinners to bikers. JK
My Dad has been on blood thinners since his heart attack several years ago. He is 69 and we ride together all the time.

This is a good thread. I've been riding the past 6 years while taking Coumadin and never gave it much thought. I just ordered a medic alert dog tag and should get it in a few days. Thanks for the eye opener.

You made a good choice -- from my personal experience, the hospital got all my medical data on the stop. It was a life saver for me.

I'm 67 and take blood thinners everyday. 14 years ago a couple fuel lines in the heart were closed down so we bypassed them and installed a mechanical aortic valve to replace the one that was leaking. No problems since and I don't think about not riding due to the heart work or the thinners. Carry medic alert info and enjoy the ride.

I know an 82 year old ironworker that still rides to this day. I myself am 32, and i say ride till you feel like u cant anymore!!!!! And after that, try to ride again and if u cant then its time to hang it up. I say this with much respect to our elders, dont fret what a pills possible side effects are. If u have never had issues or u know what can bring them on and can control them from the pills, RIDE ON!
