Default Simple Battery Question:

Just bought a Batteries Plus X2-30LA AGM Battery, the box says ok to install without any charging. "No Initial Charging Required" Should I ptu the tender on it till it shows full charge or just put it in the bike?
Thanks

I always charge a new battery even if it's supposedly pre-charged. You just never know how long a battery has been sitting on a shelf.

Using the Battery Tender to bring it up to a full charge is a good idea. If you don't S-L-O-W-L-Y bring it up to100% State of Charge with the Battery Tender the charging system on the bike will bring it up to 100% SOC . . . and it will do so as rapidly as it can ie ASAP. The 1-3 Amperes of the Battery Tender will be better for the battery in the long run. I think the manufacturer of the battery is concerned about an owner that puts the new battery on a large automotive type charger and proceeds to charge it at a high rate. This would be worse than letting the charging system on the bike do its thing.

Well everyone says put a tender on it. I say stick it in there, if it starts your alternator will take care of business, that's what they do.

True. In the old days of wet cells, charging before using was the norm, but with the AGM batteries, they are 80% full sitting on the shelf. Just put a new HD (agm) battery in mine, fired it up, and drove away. I do use a Battery Tender when I think of it, but the Harley battery supposedly will start the bike after 12 months of sitting idle. Check out some bikes that have been sitting on the dealer floor for many months.
