The Skid Lid brand isn't terrible, better than others I've had.

1) protective
2) comfortable
3) cheap

You can usually only get two of the three items above at the same time in a helmet and you can never get item 1 with a half helmet whether it is DOT or not.

As far as 3/4 helmets are concerned, there is no noticable size difference between DOT and non-DOT:

Are they still in business? I also have one that's about 10 years old and now I would like to replace it with another NXT.

You can buy a DOT helmet, any DOT helmet, and think you don't look too bad but you do. No way around it.

notice on all the websites they don't show you the underside of the helmet. that way you can't see the 1 1/2 of foam surrounding your dome.

found the NXT website. they actually have a pic of someone wearing it. not too bad. might consider getting one of these.

Also found a link for the skid lid company mentioned above.

gotta agree with you here. I bought a Daytona helmet that was advertised as the smallest DOT, it is awful. not only huge, would not stay on my head at speed.

I got a Skid Lid brand which is MUCH better. it's not horrible in shroomage. not sure how it compares to something like NXT or others, but I am satisfied with it, although I still find myself reaching for my ACC novelty carbon fiber more than any other helmet on the shelf.
