started with a 96 heritage in 96. I was 27

32vld 01-03-2011 10:59 AM

I started out at the top. The first bike I bought was a new 1978 superglide 80". As many other's say now, I wish I had that bike now.

CEJohnson21 01-03-2011 11:05 AM

Dirt bike before the driver's license. First street bike was a Kawasaki KZ550, than on to sport bikes for almost 30 years. My first Harley was a 2010 Road King that I bought late last year.

qtrracer 01-03-2011 11:34 AM

1st street only was a 85 FJ 1100 Yamaha, pretty cool ride, fast smooth fairly comfortable around town but then I rode a friends Harley for a month(we swapped rides) and the next new purchase was a 91 FLSTF.

GMbagger 01-03-2011 11:37 AM

Started out on dirtbikes. First streetbike was a Kawi ZRX1100 naked. Had 2 of them then got my holy grail of sportbikes in my mind, a new 2004 Suzi Hayabusa. Owned 4-5 of them over the years and sold my last Busa unexpectedly. As I was changing the oil on my turbo busa at the shop, a customer came in and offered me his stock busa and 10K cash right there. Sold. Then I sold the stock busa too. I started working at a HD dealer and saw an 06'RoadGlide getting traded in. I looked at the RG for the next few months. It kept drawing my eye everytime I walk by. I knew that it was for me. I started out wanting a streetglide and wound up on a RG. Flash forward almost 5 months and the RG is gone from a head-on with a truck. Now I have no bike but am thankful to God that I am alive to type this. Another RG was traded the other day. It too has caught my eye......... For those that like a SG but want a better ride, test ride a RG. I did and never looked back.

Started in Harley,

But plan to own a couple different makes as well as my hog once I'm done blowing my wad on a house.
I'l always have more harleys than others tho :)

parts eeter 01-03-2011 11:50 AM

I rode high HP sport bikes until I moved out of PODUNK and away from Barney Fife, now I can just cruise on my StreetBob. If I move back I will be buying a KTM 530EXC dual sport and staying off the road as much as possible, and using the HD for road trips.

dylder 01-03-2011 12:03 PM

I started as a kid on mini bikes, then a 125 and a 250 enduro, a yamaha 360, KZ 550 then did without while the kids were young. Now I've picked up the Sportster 1200c. Plan to add a Road King in a couple year, but don't tell the OL about that yet.

DeD Fred 01-03-2011 12:26 PM

Besides a 250 Harley Scambler I had in high school.
I didnt own one until 2003 when I bought a 100 year FXDX Dyna-saur.
Was so glad to dumb it back to the stealer, and upgrade to a Sportster.

lou1 01-03-2011 12:38 PM

First bike was a 650 Bonneville hard tail. Had 10 other metric bikes after that. My first Harley is the Sportster I have now. Don't think I will ever ride anything other than a Harley again.
Lou

2black1s 01-03-2011 12:53 PM

Go-carts and mini-bikes up to about 14 years old.

Then a Sears 106.

Rode my friends Harleys quite a bit from 16-18. Mostly choppers, I painted them for free then got to ride them.

Kawasaki A7 350cc 2-stroker (that bike was quick!!!) was next.

Then a Honda 750.

Followed that with a Honda 650 Custom.

In '84 got a new Honda V45 Interceptor

Took several years off from bikes while the kids were young.

Got my first Harley in '02. A Softail Duece that I still have today.

And finally, a 2011 Ultra Limited was added this past September.

BullK9 01-03-2011 02:13 PM

I started on a 2002 Honda CBR600F4i...
Upgraded to a 2006 Honda RC51 (RVT1000R)....
Then moved to a Suzuki Boulevard M50...

And finally, now a 2011 Harley Dyna Wide Glide.

89FLHT 01-03-2011 02:21 PM

Minibike, then dirtbikes, then a bunch of enduros that had license plates to get to the trails.
First Street bike - 75 sporty, then FXR, the 'Glide... No regrets.

j1mmy 01-03-2011 02:28 PM

from 9-21yo i have had 1 or 2,or 4 of evry japanese beater i could find, fighting and trading my way till i could afford harleys..once i made it,i never looked back.its like a dark past..

mhn254 01-03-2011 02:38 PM

My first bike was a 1969 Triumph Trophy 500. After that I had a Bonneville and then a Kawasaki 380 3 cylinder. Took years off riding as I raised a family and worked my ass off. Got back to riding with a Star Classic. I now have a 2003 Kawaski Vulcan Nomad 1500 and a 2010 Road Glide Custom. My Harley is definitely my favorite bike of all time.

roadking2000 01-03-2011 02:51 PM

I started on Harleys. A 63 FLH that was a real POS when I got it was my first bike of any kind, but I did take my test on a Honda 305 scrambler that belonged to my brother-in-law. I've also owned a Triumph and a BSA, but I always had a Harley even when I was a proud owner of the other two.

kykurnal 01-03-2011 03:06 PM

Honda 305 Dream, Kawasaki Mach III, Harley Dyna, Harley Ultra LTD. No more 'up' for me...

2010 Fatboy Lo 01-03-2011 03:12 PM

2 Honda hair dryers, 2 Kawasonics and now a Harley to cruise.

brenn 01-03-2011 03:15 PM

I started on a Honda CB 750. My wife started on a Harley 883.

honestbob 01-03-2011 03:24 PM

If you don't count mini-bikes or mopeds My first "real bike" was a Harley 165cc hummer. in 1963. Then went with english then Jap then back to Harleys in the early 80s

KSims1868 01-03-2011 03:36 PM

Motocross bikes is where I 1st began riding at the age of 7 or 8 yrs old.
First street bike was a 1979 HD Ironhead Sportster...and have had HD's ever since. I have had a couple jap bikes sprinkled in there for variety...but HD was always my #1.

Gruamach 01-03-2011 03:53 PM

I don't ever remember NOT wanting a Harley, or wanting something besides a Harley.

But being dead ass broke at the time, I started off with a cheap little $1500 Suzuki Savage, which is a 650 1-cylinder "Wide Glide Wannabe".

My second bike was a Sporty & been HD's ever since.

lh4x4 01-03-2011 04:47 PM

Started on a Honda in the 60's and worked my way up to a 750 in 1970. Had Honda's, Yamaha's, Suzuki's and Kawasaki's until 2007 including the Honda Rune. Then I got a 07 FXSTC and the rest is history. Sold the VTX 1800, Rune and the Nomad 1600.

Added one of each family of air cooled HD's including their cousin the Buell Ulysses XT.

I plan to ride a couple more years and give the XR, Superglide and Buell to my three sons. I'll ride the Ultra and Softail around the local area for a few more years.

At 70 I feel that once I'm 72, I'll leave the long distance riding to others.

soulpony 01-03-2011 08:19 PM

40+ years ago it was cheaper to learn on a used honda then a harley, as the years go buy you can buy more expensive toys, last few bikes have been Harleys.

Cheater 01-03-2011 08:42 PM

Started off on metric, both dirt and street. At 55 I decided "one more bike, and by damn this time it's gonna be a Harley". That was 4 Harley's ago, still have all 4 and love them all.

warrconn 01-03-2011 08:44 PM

A couple of Triumph Bonnevilles starting in the 70s, then a sportie in early 80s, big twins ever since. A natural progression.

harleydavis 01-03-2011 08:47 PM

My 1st motorcycle was a brand new 1973 Ironhead Sportster that I bought on the 1st day of my new job after college. Wish I still had that bike!

grandparon45 01-03-2011 09:08 PM

Started riding on my brothers Honda trail 90 in the mid '60s, I bought my first bike, a 1951 Harley 45 flathead when I was in the army in '71. It caught on fire on me, and I never did trust it after that. I traded it fot an old worn out Indian in '73, bought a new Harley Sprint in '75, then a Moto Guzzi trail bike, then a Norton Commando, and a bunch of other bikes until in '85 I went to a bike show, where the dealers were set up also, and spotted a new '86 sporty 883, I was looking at it when a salesman came up and slapped a sold sign on it.. I said, wait a minute, "tell me about this bike" He told me it's sold as he walked away, but after a while another saleman came up and told me all about the new evolution sportster. At the end he said and the best part is, they lowered the price on it to $3995. Just then, his dad, the owner of the dealership came up and said they just got another one in and if I wanted to take it for a ride, they would uncrate it and do the inservice on it. I said sure. They had it down at the show a couple of hours later, I took it for a ride, talked a trade in for my Suzuki, and closed the deal. Then I had to go home and tell my wife I bought a new Harley! She couldn't believe her ears, but it was true. That scooter cost me a new car, new carpeting, refurnishing the house and a few other things to make up for buying it. I still have that bike, but not that wife, along with a couple of other Harleys. Its just a good little bike.

dfirecpt 01-03-2011 09:24 PM

Started out on a Honda Trail 70 in 1972. First Harley was an Ultra Classic after a 25 year hiatus.

karjar 01-03-2011 10:47 PM

Aside from a brief stint when I was 14 on my uncles dirt bike, my first owned bike was my 2002 Road King Classic, right after completion of Motor safety course with my son.

My oldest son has a Suzuki Boulevard c50, and now my youngest son has a Triumph bonneville 700. Both are anti-Harley to the max. think they are overpriced and money sucking low performance, cult bikes.

Damn they are smart...lol but I still love my soon to be new 2009 Ultra with retro paint, and to me has more heart than both those bikes put together..lol

Kowan 01-03-2011 10:58 PM

Honda's before I got my first Harley in 86'. No interest in other makes now.

inthechateau 01-03-2011 11:05 PM

Sometimes i do regret letting go of my old Kaw voyager XII. 52 MPG, 6 gal tank, and screemed past every thing on the road. but I do love my 99 Ultra, at least it has class.

wildcat465 01-04-2011 12:46 AM

pilgrim08 01-04-2011 12:59 AM

secondtimearound 01-04-2011 01:05 AM

Went from my home made 3hp briggs and straton mini bike, to my 1976 police special FLH, and Aside from dirt bikes, it's been Harley ever since !!!

Slim_B_Kool 01-04-2011 01:07 AM

I started out a kawasaki ninja and it was a good starter bike but got tired of that after couple of years. My brother came over one day and said he wanted to go buy himself a new wideglide. So I said to him if you are gonna get a new bike , I am too! Anyway neither of us had ever rode Harleys before , heck my brother has never ridden a bike period. So we went to the dealer and got us a couple of new bikes. He got a new 11 wideglide and I got a new 11 vrod niterod special. I came back a few days later to pick my bike up and have loved that chrome yellow dawg ever since.

jackstrr 01-04-2011 01:09 AM
