Default Battery Tender question

I've got a Yuasa battery tender that doesnt switch from "charging" to "storage" mode. When I first hooked it up,it took about 3 days to switch to storage mode.I disconnected it just to check the voltage and when I re-connected it,it stayed on "charging" for about a week now.The battery was installed in May of 2010,brand new from HD.Should I be concerned? The instructions that came with it dont say much at all.

My Yuasa tender has a little switch on the back for 12/6 volt. I'm sure you have that correct but it's worth a look.!?

Something sounds wrong to me. My Deltran battery tender switches to the storage mode pretty quick, even after running the battery down foolin around in the garage with my bike. Just changed my OEM HD battery after 6 years using this tender. Works like a charm.

No switch on this one, just a 12vdc 900ma output. The battery voltage is 13.68 vdc,but it was close to that when I started.Guess I need a different one.Got this one on sale for $20,guess I'll go with the Deltran.

disconnect your ground wire from the bike to isolate the battery. Your bike could be drawing a small amount of juice!
hatch.

+1 At 0.9 Amperes (900 mA) it won't take much of a parasitic draw on the bike to keep your charger from switching.

FYI, Any parasitic draw over 0.035 amperes (35 mA) is a problem. Less than that is just your Fuel Injection Computer and/or Speedometer. They draw a few thousandths of an amp each to keep internal memory circuits alive. Ex: Trip Odometer, Clock, Fault Codes etc.

I wondered about disconnecting the neg lead, but everything I've read about these tenders says its not necessary,I'll give it a shot.I dont have fuel inj on this bike, its a '97.I picked the Yuasa over the Deltron because the Yuasa has 900ma as compared to the 750ma's the Deltran delivers,oh,and it was half the price, get what you pay for.

I disconnected the battery neg lead and the voltage immediately jumped to 13.91vdc form 13.67,so obviously there is some small draw when connected in circuit.Hooked up an ammeter and see only .001a leaking so I assume there is no real problem, just enough to keep the charger from reaching full voltage and switching to storage mode.I'm betting the light will switch to storage soon. Thanks for the replies guys.
