I am not active duty, but I have worked for the DOD Army as a civilian logistician for 29 1/2 years. Moved 6 times and lived in and worked in 4 countries. I volunteered for a 6 month tour in Iraq from 7-2010 - 1-2011. First 2 1/2 months I worked at Camp Taji on what we called the dark side (Iraqi controlled). Setting up the Taji National Depot. I wrote all the training plans to teach the Iraq soldiers on how to repair and maintain their own equipment. I then moved on to Balad where I was the Site Lead for the 1st/402nd. Found out why they called Balad, Mortaritaville really quick! Next to last day I had a mortar hit within 150 feet of me. LOL! Spent several hours sitting in the bomb shelters next to the soldiers. Made some longlasting friendships in that short time. Would not trade the experience for the world.
Gulf War One with the 82d Airplane Gang (Airborne Division) 8/90 thru 5/91. Brigade Adjutant (head personnel puke) for the first few months there then went to the 1-82d Attack Helo Battalion.
