The BAL-1 was one of the first mods I did to my bike. 41 years ago, I nearly got rear ended at a stop light. It left an indelible mark in my memory. I ride a Dyna, so there's not much of a way to put on extra lights like there would be with a touring model. So the BAL is the brightest light I could get. I am really pleased with mine and would recommend it to anyone. It won't completely rule out getting a hit from the rear, but I am convinced that it improves my odds. Good safety investment. I also installed a headlight pulser. It has saved my bacon on several occasions.

Holy Cow Pie Batman... Quite a bit of change for a tail light... Must put out the beacon of a lighthouse.

There a little pricey yes. But after seeing them here and online and then actually getting to see one in person at a local dealer that sell's them I decided to save up for one. Glad I did. One of the best add on's I could have done.
