In a nutshell; Push left, turn left. Push right, turn right. I'm sure those with more knowledge will help with the technicalities of countersteering .

It is very simple. If you want to turn right, pull toward yourself on your left bar and visa versa.

You may want to consider taking the MSF course if you are just getting back into it.

Money well spent.

I have to agree with DoCPoof. If you have to ask about it, you should learn it from a qualified teacher at a MSF course. A big plus, you get to learn the skills on their bikes!

The MSF course is a lot of fun. At first you might ask yourself what you are doing there when they teach you how to start a bike and such.

Pretty soon, you will say to yourself, wow... I learned a lot and relearned things I have forgotten.

I credit the MSF with keeping me alive. On more than one occasion the things they drill into you have saved my behind.

It's $250 well spent.

I add another vote to just taking a course. If you plan to learn/understand counter steering by reading about it, best of luck. Get crash bars. While you're at it, be sure to learn about counter balancing for the tight, slow manuevers.

Countersteering is no magic and no trick. Even if you dont know what it is, dont worry, you do it naturally even when you ride your regular pedal bike. Push right, go right....push left go left. Go ride your bicycle (pedal) now and you will know what I mean. When you think about it it doesnt make sense but then why not study David Hough's book, Proficient motorcycling and then you will understand the mechabnics of how a two wheeler vehicle turns. It is the inclination and the contact patch that makes you turn. MSF course is a must. At a low speed specially turning from a stop, there is nocountersteering bit only steering like you steer a tractor. It sounds technical but in everyday life countersteering is what makes you turn. Again push right go right, push left go left. hope this helps.

It will make your turns much more controlled. However, as other have suggested you need to take a MSF course. It could save your life as well as those that choose to ride with you.
