Yup. I did. I just had to give him enough time (30+ years) to stab me in the back. *Everyone* will screw you over, given the right circumstances.

I would loan my bike to my son and only one friend. My son rides very well and knows how I take care of the bike. He wants me to come pick his up while he deploys again. About the friend, he is a MSF/Riders Edge coach and also a great rider that I know would take care of anything should it happen. It is all about trust and respect.

While there is no "unwritten rule" (WTF?) like OP asked, my answer is no. Too many variables out there. Learned my lesson in the 70s when a friend dumped my new '76 Triumph Bonneville. Never since.

My reply is a no. However, for those that think otherwise, just how good is your insurance? In the event of an accident, are you 100% (and I do mean 100%) certain that the tables could or would not be turned on you by a grieving family and YOU then become liable for loaning the bike to your friend?
Then what about mechanical damage. OOPS, the cam failed and locked up the motor, sorry but I am having some family issues and have no extra cash to help repair. Maybe in a month or two or three I can spare a hundred....

Any "good" friend of mind would not ask. Only one person has riden my scoot other than me and that was my Bro-inlaw he knows what my scoot means to me as I know what his scoot means to him. I am the only person he has let ride his scoot.

I don't even like my husbeast to ride mine...Not because of him, but because of the way folks around here drive. If ANYONE dies on my bike again...It'll be me.
