If you can count to 5
6th gear light ain't worth much. You already hit into what I was going to mention. I did the 30T and did not lose the 6th gear light, some do. The HD dealer programs sert and sept won't let you reset your speedo or get your 6th gear light back. I think TTS and ThunderMax will. My speedo is not off enough to worry about and still have the light, got lucky I guess!

doesnt the light go out when you pull in the clutch while in 6th gear??
No way to answer that. I'm guessing it would stay lit because of the safety switch in the clutch lever being applied during sixth (programed as such).

The light goes out on my '09 when the clutch is pulled in, it trips the safety switch which also disengages the cruise if set.

The software uses both NVH ( RPm vs. MPH) and load(MAP) to decide gear. ( and every gear can be defined in the software)
Without a clutch and Neutral input to the software, you could get a "false" gear indication when "reving" the throttle with either the clutch in or in neutral coasting down the road.
There are some other functions that can use "GEAR" as an input, but I am unsure if Harley uses those function. ( One software input for gear is throttle progression vs GEAR, on DBW (drive by wire). And as noted cruise is disabled by both neutral and clutch state!)
My guess is the reason Harley only uses a 6th gear light ( as was mentioned earlier) is to prevent lugging.

OMG. Electrical tape? You can't be serious!
That would be like the biggest Motorcycle fashion faux pas of all time.
I'm sure that someone must make a nice chrome cover to put over it that shouldn't cost more than $30.00 or $40.00.

Took forever for me to get used to my green light. My gut kept telling me the turnsignal was on, when riding at night where the green really stood-out. LOL
