Advice On Helmet Please
#21
I've tried (and returned) a lot of them>> Bell Drifter, Daytona, Rockhard, etc. So far, the best one seems to be the Vega NXT, which I discovered on a search of these forums. Not as small as my ACC carbon fiber, though. Man I love that helmet-- wish it was DOT like the sticker says.
I have a small head so they all look like 'shrooms. I'm also going to order a Zox Custom and see how that is. They say they have a smaller shell size for the smaller sized helmets (vs. just adding more padding like most of the mfgrs.)

I don't care for the mushroom look of the DOT helmet either, but after a little thought I realized my brain was a lot more important than how I look.
The wife and I both have the Harley Hybrid helmets, a little bulky, but as much protection as a half helmet can provide and very light. We really like them.

I also wear an ACC carbon fiber when I'm not going somewhere DOT helmets are required and it's either cold enough or dangerous enough to make me want one. It gives some protection and keeps out the cold, without pulling my head like a big parachute when I ride.

The leatherup carbons are posers.
It is not a carbon fiber shell, it's a polycarbonate shell, same as the other colors. It just has the carbon fiber look. That's why they are only 34.95. Nice helmet though.
BTW, coupons for leatherup http://www.tjoos.com/Coupon/6150/Leatherup

I wear the Harley Hybrid, yeah I look like a mushroom head. You can get a carbonfiber with a lower profile though.
Previous posters are right. The bulkiness of the helmet is because DOT requires so much padding between the head and the shell. Skid lids are a look, not protection though. Some people use them because they are mandated by law, others because they don't like the profile of the DOT helmets.
Personally, I don't give a **** what someone else thinks of how I look. I ride my Harley without excuses, and I wear a DOT half helmet.
