What gear do you stop in ?
#22
I downshift according to my speed keeping the clutch in and stop in 1st. I don't use the tranny to help slow down the bike. Brake pads are cheaper then motor parts.
The reason why I stop this way is because if I see some trouble behind me I just need to pull the clutch out and take off in the correct gear.

I always downshift to 1st as I come to a stop.
If I'll be sitting for a couple minutes, I'll pop it into N.
But I always go to first as I'm coming to a stop, just in case the idiots behind me DON'T stop, I'm at least capable of letting go of the clutch & trying to get out of their way.

and, if there's a car stopped in front of me, I leave a car's length space, and position mice elf so that I can shoot around it if someone is coming up from behind. I would rather shoot between two cars in front of me, and take out a couple of mirrors, than be squashed from behind.
Keep scanning your mirrors for trouble from behind!

intriguing, where do I obtain said "mice elf" and how do i train it not to flinch when I open fire?
is a mice elf sufficient to be cover, or should I just consider it to be concealment from approaching traffic?

I will downshift into second just before stopping. I use only the front brake to finish the stop shifting into first as I stop. I leave it in 1st if the light is going to be really short or there's no traffic behind me. Once a car stops then I slip it into neutral, especially on a longer light.

Just keep your eyes in the mirrors until you're positive the car behind you is stopped then click it into neutral.
Can't do much about the 2nd and 3rd cars behind you.
Even if you're in 1st and the car behind you gets it in the rear you won't have time to get out of the way.
At least if that does happen it doesn't jerk your hand off the clutch and shoot you uncontrolled out into traffic.
