I always downshift to 1st as I come to a stop.
If I'll be sitting for a couple minutes, I'll pop it into N.

Setting still in gear will put wear on a wet clutch. It's only wet with the motor not running.

About 6 months back I had a minvan slam in to my car while at a light so its always best to be watching...they weren't!
Unless emergency situation arises...

It's a flash if you get slamed you will never have time to do any thing.

i'll stop in first, but once cars line up behind me and the light stays red for any sort of time i'll pop it into neutral and take my hands down off the bars.

Like all others, I put it in first when stopped - unless I'll be there for a minute or so, then its neutral until I'm ready to go.

If I've seen from some distance that a light has been red for a bit I'll gradually gear down while staying alert the the traffic behind and being ready to go if it goes green before I stop. Always stay ready for some stupid on the cross street to blow the red though. When I'm stopped it's first gear until I've determined there's no threat from behind then neutral.

99% of time i like to downshift thru the gears when coming to a stop. Not necessarily heavy engine breaking mind you, but just casual down shifting. Saves on brake pads, brake dust and keeps me in a torque mode if i need to use it.

The same gear I ride in. I'm not getting naked just because I'm stopping...

Been hashed over many times. I keep my bike in gear ready to evade at all times. A sitting duck is a dead duck. I also have a plan at all times of where I might try to go to if things go south badly. It is a survival skill.
