Black Mountain Hog Chapter ride along

Black Mountain Hog Chapter ride along
Well I decided to give the local Hog chapter a test ride on Saturday the 4th. A bit underwhelmed, but really not terribly disappointed in them. The ride was from Henderson HD (which is on the south east side of Henderson), to the Hoover Dam (which, if you stretch it, is about 12 miles from the south east side of Henderson). Now it did take more than 15 minutes to get there, basically because there is the 15mph speed limit when you get onto the dam access road. So the out part of the ride took maybe 25 minutes... then we stopped, ugh, but at least it gave me a chance to talk with a few of the officers of the club. Nice folks, did not present themselves to be snobby (which I've encountered with other Hog chapter officers). We probably hung out at the dam for about 45 minutes, then road back to H-HD for the free food. There were about 30 bikes in the out part of the ride, and maybe 24 on the ride back. A little big but they do manage it well and most of the riders can maintain a pace, so there was limited rubberbanding at the back (where us non-members were).
Still up in the air about joining them, 30 mile rides just suck. But HOGs do seem to be the only clubs in Vegas that actually ride consistantly.

I hear you, as I'm not a fan of short rides or frequent stops...if you decide to join them you can always suggest longer rides and routes...maybe they will take your advise....if not, then you can just go on your own...I end up solo a lot!
When I'm in the mood to really put miles on, I ride alone or with people that want to do the same thing. I put it out there to everyone I ride with...if your not willing to ride hard for an entire day, please do not show up. Everyone knows the deal...it's not meant to hurt feelings, but to tell them what type of riding is expected. When I'm in the mood to take it easy, I put it out there too. BTW, the group always seems to be larger on the easy ride days.

That does seem pretty short. The HOG group here are also pretty good riders and avoid the accordion effect on the group. However, the rides are always a lot longer than that - typically 150 to 200+ miles (round trip) for a ride to a monthly meeting. Other special rides are often longer or over night. I doubt I've ever seen one with them that was under 100 miles.

I've just started riding with the local HOG chapter. There's a lot of nice folks that really try to make everyone feel comfortable. Most rides are anywhre from 80 to 120 miles one way. The ride back is not considered part of the sanctioned ride though most stay together. That way, if someone want to have a beer, they can. I haven't seen anybody drinking though.

I hate short rides. When I ride I like to do at least 100 miles each way and hopefully a lot more.

You say there was free food at the end? Even if you were out of gas, you could do that ride on a 4-speed, carbureted, Shovelhead switched to "reserve".
That's not a ride.......that's like a weinie bite contest.

Yep, it wasn't just for the HOGs though, H-HD does a free cookout every saturday starting at noon and lasting till the food runs out.. about 45 minutes.
