Default Bike had dyno, what would you do?

Hey guys, i had my bike tuned on a dyno here in Washington state at Destination Harley.
The following is a letter i sent to them and Harley. I just feel i received poor service.
Let me know what you think and no worries, i can take it

To whom this may concern, This letter is about my service experience at Destination Harley. I brought my 2010 Electra glide ultra classic with 3,000 miles on it in to be tuned with my TTS master tuner and the service departments dyno. I arrived at 10am. My bike was taken in right away because i said, i would just hang out til the work was finished. I was told it would be around 4 hours. I talked to the dyno guy when he was outside on his lunch around 12pm. He said it was going ok but he was having some issues because of something with the 2010s one wire or two wire O2 Sensor? Anyway, later around 330/400 pm, i checked in with him again to see how things were going and he said ok but was having a couple issues and had a call into a 2nd dyno guy who wasn't working that day. 6pm rolls around and i was told my bike was finished. I was told the map the dyno guy was working with all day had a corrupt file and that is why it took so long. The off duty dyno guy was called in and found this out. So im thinking my dyno work really happened with in two hours. Why was i charged for four hours and did i really get a tuned bike back or was the shop closing and they wanted to get my bike out of there. On my way home, i could smell oil burning. I pulled over and seen oil had been coming out of my air cleaner and ran down on to the engine. I wiped up what i could see and finished my trip home. When i got home i looked over my bike and seen my left slip on muffler was burnt pass the shield, also the right one but not as bad. This was not there before. The headers were burnt around the heads but, not all the way back to the mufflers. I could not see any of this when i received my bike back because it was to dark in the parking lot. One more thing. I did receive a sheet back showing the bikes hp and torque but nothing telling me what the bike started at. To sum this up, $314 dollars later i got my $20,000 bike back with oil down the side of the motor, my headers now burnt back to the mufflers and then some and not really knowing if the bike was tuned as good as it could be.

Thanks Destination Harley for your Suck A** Service. I'll be sure to let the word out. Oh, a copy of this will be sent to Harley to let them know about the great service your providing to your customers.

Thanks for any replys

Joe

The dyno results were Max power 77.02 and Max torque 90.43

The bike has SE air cleaner, Samson duals and SuperTrapp slip ons with turndowns.

Cant speak about all the service problems you had, but at 77hp and 90tq. Your bike was tuned. Those are not stock numbers. In fact those numbers are pretty good for the small mods you have done

Sorry for your trouble, but I think the letter is going to backfire. You may have had a case for having them replace or partially compensate you for the damaged exhaust (since they admitted to running your motor WOT with a corrupted map). However, by saying their service sucks and that you'll "let the word out" you have pretty much slammed the door on any further dialogue. Also, copying H-D corporate is useless since it involves non-Harley parts and service. Contact the dealership general manager instead. Try to (calmly) make him understand that damage was caused by their tech... unintentional, but damage just the same. If he/she has any sense, they should see that compensating you is peanuts compared to the loss of future business from you and your friends. GL!

May have reserved the foul language (for a HD forum or something) with the suck *** comment.

I don't think 300 dollars +/- is unreasonable.. (for a dyno tune that gives good results...)

The oil = they probably been revving the girl all day, built up pressure and puked a little out the vent..( I know they probably should have wiped it up..)

The "burnt" exhaust = you wanted more power but not a leaner burn or more heat ...? Maybe because of the wot with a bad map as stated above..I'm not sure you can blame them for this though.

They brought a guy in on his day off and paid him over time to help you and you are mad about that ...?

I don't know man, I've had some pretty bad service in my day..I'm not sure this qualifies .... Just my two cents though...

Is that a stage I 96? 77/90 is good numbers, how does the bike run? Any hesitation or backfiring?

If I were you, I'd follow your letter up with a quick apology, letting them know your emotions kinda got ahold of you and you've had time to cool down a little. Then talk to them about your concerns with the oil blowby, which by the way is a common issue. In fact, it's probably not related to the tune at all, but likely due to the fact that your bike spent some time at full throttle, which you don't normally do. As far as the exhaust goes, are you talking about under the heat shields? Or have the heat shields themselves turned blue? If it's the headers, again, nothing to worry about. If it's the heat shields, try some blue job before you take your complaint to the service manager.

Good luck, I hope you get your issues resolved. It sounds like, at least, they sent you out with a performance tune.

4 hours is very typical for a Dyno tune. $300.00 is very reasonable. Looks like you got good results with the tune, be thankful for it.

Yeppers 4hrs is bout normal for a good first tune..

and 77 and 90 is IMO great for just a stg1....

As far a burnt headers,, do U mean the header pipes or do U have shields on the pipes...

The header pipe will turn blues on all bikes, just not usually the shields....

When the son has his new Street Glide worked on he installed Stg1 and cams with the new V&H's 2-1-2 and slip ons, he had a small brown spot on front of his right muffler where it got hot.

He just said oh,, and went on...

IMO they give U a really good tune. And yes she prob blowed a little oil during the dyno which isn't unusual. nor it the pipes turning because the new ones are sooooo lean from the factory till they richen her out during the dyno..

Me thinks U need to communicate with the service dept and or GM better instead of just raising cain.

Sorry man, but it sounds like they did you right, Basically they quoted you at 4 hours and they stuck to it, despite it taking them longer with more work and at a much greater cost to them than anticipated. The specialist may have only had 2 hours on the bike, but the first guy was worked at least 6+. Even if all he was doing is diagnosing the problem, that takes a lot of time and equipment. They probably paid the first guy $150 for the day, plus at least $100 more for the specialist to come in. Your $50 markup on labor is dirt cheap compared to most. I might bring up the fact that the oil wasn't wiped off the headers, but you really have no complain on the labor/charge.

It's hard for me to see why you are complaining so much, you got a good tune for a fair price. The numbers look good for just a stage 1. As far as the oil, it's normal to have a little vent when run at w.o.t. for that long. You probably should have talked to them about the pipes a little more respectful and given them a chance to explain or work something out. No sympathy here.
