Default The case of the stolen, pink, autographed charity Sportster

I saw this bike on display at Wildcat Harley back in the summer, after it had been autographed by some country stars and before one of our local meth-heads stole it. It's just a kind of interesting story (to me, anyhow):

The basic story was:
They next approached Shane Richmond and Aaron Snukals at Wildcat Harley-Davidson in nearby London, KY, and "They were 100 percent receptive. I spoke to Aaron Snukals, pitched him the idea, and he said 'That's a great idea. Let me walk you out here on the floor and you pick a bike.' I selected a 2010 XL883 Sportster and they took it in the back to have it painted."
Wildcat is owned by the same people as Smokey Mountain HD in Gatlinburg, TN, I believe.
That's just the start, however. The next step will be to take it to the Country Music Awards to have it signed by a variety of country music stars. Dolly Parton has already agreed to be the first signer and negotiations are underway for others such as Taylor Swift and Tobey Keith to sign as well. Altogether, 40-some stars may put their names on the bike.

From Nashville the bike will move to the Jay Leno show. "Let's shoot for the stars" is how Edward describes their thinking when they decided to approach Leno. "Jay does bikes now and then, he'll bring a bike out and let it sit for a couple weeks, and get stars on the show to sign. We asked them and they agreed. They said they couldn't do it in October but maybe late November or else early December."
But the Susan G. Komen foundation had it in a trailer in their parking lot and a meth maker/dealer from Louisville stole the whole thing. It was recovered in a raid on this meth lab this weekend (apparently he was too dumb to paint it and part it out in the last 4 months).

Police said 45-year-old Kenneth Cravens was indicted Tuesday on several charges, including receiving stolen property and manufacturing methamphetamine.

The Harley-Davidson motorcycle was found in pieces in October. It had been signed by several celebrities for the auction, but those autographs were sanded off.

The motorcycle was supposed to be auctioned off for the Susan G. Komen For The Cure charity.

Police said Cravens was charged with manufacturing meth second offense, trafficking in a controlled substance - meth, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property worth over $10,000, criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cravens was already on probation on meth-related charges when he was indicted.

They should repaint it and go for it again, and let this part of the story become the reason that it should be sold for even more money.

When Leno finds out, he may just get it signed all over again. Same for the country music stars. Glad they recovered it. Now they need to "rehabilitate" the meth-head.

I agree, something with history always sells for more.

Yup do it over again. The bike will have more of a story behind it, more of a "destiny" flavor to that story. Peeps that signed the bike will be more than willing to sign it again if they hear the story, it will all become that much more meaningful.

Too bad it had to happen, but no reason to drop the purpose of the whole thing, just...get it out and and get those sigs again.

I am sure he was dissappointed to find a one or a kind bike in the trailer. I wonder too if he knew why he had the stuff or if he took it in a meth haze and found it later.
