I let mine idle for a few minutes to get oil circulating good, then ride & keep revs down for a couple miles.

Warm weather or cold, I always let her warm up for a few minutes....she gives me too much pleasure to abuse her good nature.

I have about a two mile ride to get to the main highway. I usually just take it easy untill I hit the big road, then get after it!

I warm it up for about a minute, hop on 'n head out, first mile or so go slow..don't rev it up much (road I live on is a 35 mph road for the next mile)...then gradually get more enthusiastic with the right wrist.

Warming the engine allows each part to reach operating temperature. Different metals expand and contract at different rates, the engine contains mainly steel and aluminum which in order for the tolerances to be correct each needs to be warmed to the design operating temperature, then the parts will fit together correctly. For instance aluminum pistons with steel rings. So give it a few minutes to warm the parts and the oil and the whole thing will last a lot longer.

Always, but never idle too long or use much gas until the oil is warm. Pistons aren't round when cold.

Anything Evo or newer you have to let them warm up , heat expansion is designed in for proper sealing on all the gasketed surfaces . It's also one of the reasons for multi weight oils . I hear the twin cams are much better now than the old evo's , those would blow base & rocker box gasket's fast if didn't warm them first .

Every one who posted so far has got it right , nice to know common sense is still around I get a little worried sometimes reading stuff in here .

I always let it warm up for at least a minute. When below 50F several minutes.
